Merkel: Cold War Must Cease!
German Chancellor Angela Merkel opposes unilateral EU-Ukraine and Ukraine-Russia relations. Merkel plans to discuss cooperation questions with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych during the Vilnius summit-2013 on November, 28 - 29. "We have proposed the integration to Ukraine, and will to offer it in the future", the Chancellor said, commenting on the decision to suspend Kiev to sign the Association Agreement with the EU.
Assessing Russia as a powerful strategic partner, Germany is ready to act as a mediator in the relationship between Ukraine and Russia. "The time of the Cold War came to an end. Cooperation with Europe should not adversely affect relations between Ukraine and Russia", said Merkel.
Germany and Ukraine again will consider upon the question of the release of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, according to AFP (Agence France-Presse). In Berlin the ministers are sure: Yanukovych can release Tymoshenko in short terms. Yanukovych's position remains the same - the President claims that he is unable to release the former Prime Minister. "The court will verdict", President of Ukraine considers.
