Resolution on Ukraine will be discussed in the UN General Assembly today
Ukraine sponsored a resolution on maintaining territorial integrity of the country in the UN General Assembly. The UN General Assembly will be held on March 27 in New York.
"We suggest that the UN General Assembly confirms sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the framework of internationally recognized borders," reported director of the department of information policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Perebiynis. Moreover, the draft resolution calls on all the parties to refrain from unilateral actions and rhetorics, which can intensify existing tension.
According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "the resolution contains a call for not recognizing any change in status of the Crimea and Sevastopol based on the referendum and for abstaining from the actions, aimed at recognition of that status".
He has also added that the issue of demilitarization of the Crimea has not been included to the draft resolution.
