Putin signed decree on Republic of Crimea independence
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the Republic of Crimea. The people of the Peninsula had decided to secede from Ukraine in a referendum on March 16.
Decree on recognition of independence of Crimea enters into force from the day of its signing.
"Taking into account the Crimean peoples’ will on the referendum, held on 16 March 2014, to recognize the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol with a special status of a sovereign and independent state", the decree, published on the website of Russian President, stated.
Let's remind, the Crimean referendum on 16 March 2014 for the reunification of the Crimea with Russia on the rights of the subject of the Russian Federation 96,77% of the Crimeans voted. On March 17 the Supreme Council of Crimea was renamed the State Council of the Republic of Crimea (SCRC).85 deputies voted for new representative body of the Crimea.
Besides, at the session the regulation on proclamation of independence of Crimea on the basis of the Declaration of independence and the ARC of March 11, 2014, was approved. The document was submitted to the Russian Parliament and confirmed. According to it the state property of Ukraine passes into the possession of the Crimean people.
