About 2,000 people came to support integration with EU at the rally "Euromaidan» in Kharkiv
The rally in support of the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU has taken place in Kharkov today. The campaign began simultaneously with the National Viche (national council) "For European Ukraine" in Kiev at 12:00. According to the law enforcement authorities esteem about 2,000 people gathered near the monument to Taras Shevchenko. The participants demanded that the President should sign the Association Agreement on the Summit of the East partnership in Vilnius. The most popular slogans were "Kharkov is Europe", "You cannot stop freedom", "Glory to Ukraine".
The rally "Euromaidan" was opened by the anthem of the EU "Ode to Joy". The violinist Olga Babiy played the work of Beethoven alive.
The activity took place in the mode of the "free microphone". The human rights activist Yevgeniy Zakharov, the people's deputy Igor Shvaika, public activists Victoria Skliarova, Dmitriy Pilipets and others were among the speakers.
The organizers collected the signatures of those who disapproved the decision of the government to suspend the course towards the integration with the EU. Almost 2,000 signatures were collected. In the framework of the rally the exhibition of pictures under the titles "I choose the EU because" and "My positive associations with the EU" took place.
The participants brought the flags of Ukraine, of the European Union, as well as of some of European countries such as England and France. There were no flags of the political parties the rally "Euromaidan" was declared a territory without the political symbols.
Following the example of Kiev, those who were cold were offered hot tea.
Fund raising for the needs of the rally "Euromaidan" was organized. The organizers reported that the Kharkov dwellers have donated 8,561 hryvnas during one day.
The Kharkov rally "Euromaidan" will last till the beginning of the Summit in Vilnius on November 28-29. The Kharkov dwellers plan to gather every evening at 18:00 on the Liberty square in front of the building of the Kharkov regional state administration.
