Lutsenko in intensive care
Opposition leader Yuri Lutsenko was hurt trying to stop Avtomaidan activists who attacked the bus with Berkut officers and prison guards.
This was reported by Larisa Sargan, press secretary of the politician. She also spoke about the injuries sustained by the opposition leader.
"Three subcutaneous hematomas on the head. Closed cranio-cerebral injury. 3 cm stitch. Lutsenko partially lost consciousness. Now he is more or less sober. In the intensive care unit. According to eyewitnesses, Lutsenko was hit with a truncheon on the head when he tried to protect his wife Irina. She allegedly was hit by the riot police after Avtomaidan activists began to shake the bus with Berkut inside, UNIAN reports.
On Friday, January 10, Kiev-Sviatoshynsky district court sentenced persons involved in "Vasilkov case" to six years in prison.
After the verdict the activists who protested on the street blocked exits from the court yard to prevent from taking away the prisoners. The clash between protesters and Berkut resulted in severe damages to several activists and journalists, as well as People's Deputies Eduard Leonov and Yuri Bublik.
In protest, Avtomaidan cars blocked Berkut buses on Peremogy Avenue. During the standoff, a fight broke out; Yuri Lutsenko and a few others got beaten. Activists continued to block riot police, allowing them into the Sviatoshynsky police station only after the officers showed their faces and were photographed.
