Two scientific humanitarian institutes are being closed because of lack of funding
Due to lack of funding the Institute of the Ukrainian archeography and source study named after Grushevsky of the Academy of sciences of Ukraine and the Institute of oriental studies named after Krymsky might be liquidated.
According to the open letter, issued by the administration of the institute for the general public, tomorrow the presidium of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine will consider the issue of liquidation of the Institute of the Ukrainian archeography and source study.
"This hardly understandable move is made suddenly, behind the scenes, without discussions with the employees or the scientific community, with the goal of so-called "optimization of the scientific establishments' network". It is also outrageous that besides liquidating our institute the presidium also plans to liquidate the Institute of oriental studies named after Krymsky of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine," is written in the letter.
According to the employees of Grushevsky institute, when their scientific establishment was created in 1991 its mail goal was identification and scientific publication of documentary sources of the history of Ukraine.
"Liquidation of the institute does not have purely scientific grounds. A comprehensive inspection of the work of the institute, which was carried out by the presidium of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine in 2010, did not identify substantial shortcomings, which was supported by the corresponding act. It is especially significant that during the meeting of the bureau of the department of history, philosophy and law of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine on October 21 two topics of scientific research for 2014-2016 were approved, and then four days later a project of the liquidation of the institute appeared," the scientists report.
