Russian people's council is being held in Moscow
17th universal Russian people's council has begun in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Its topic is "Russia as the country-civilization. Solidary society and the future of the Russian people". Representatives of all the branches of government, leaders of public associations, leading clergymen of all traditional religions, figures of science and culture participate in the functioning of the council. The chairman of the meetings is the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
"During the last 15 years there were positive changes in Russia, particularly, in economics, demographics, but they are not yet fully convincing for those of our compatriots, who lost or are losing the faith in the creative power of own country," emphasized the head of the Russian orthodox church.
The public forum exists since 1993 and celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. During all this time the council has been a public stage for discussion of the most pressing issues.
Today those gathered have discussed the situation in Russia and its role in the world arena, urged the Russians to be tolerant towards the people of different nationalities and emphasized the importance of preserving the originality of the country.
