Russia reduced gas price for Ukraine to $268.5 per 1000 cubic meters
Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukraine in the presence of the Presidents of the two countries signed an addendum to the “Contract for the sale, supply, volumes and terms of transit of natural gas” from January 19, 2009, reports the press service of the President.
According to Putin, Gazprom can - and intends to - sell gas to Ukraine at $268.1 per thousand cubic meters, informs Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
Currently Ukraine buys the Russian gas at the price of over $400 per thousand cubic meters.
At the same time, the Russian President noted the temporary nature of these arrangements.
"In any case, we believe that this is also a temporary solution. Meaning that the long-term, long-run agreements must and will be achieved. This concerns gas supplies to Ukraine and uninterrupted transit of gas to the Russian clients in Europe,” said Putin.
He noted that Russia is ready to make concessions, but in the future, a different scheme must be developed.
According to Ukraine’s deputy prime minister Yuri Boyko, the new gas price becomes valid from January 1.
