Kharkov-Arena will be put into operation in 2014

Journalists who signed up for a press-tour on December 10 were able to view the construction progress of multipurpose arena for Eurobasket-2015. At this stage, the workers have already started installation of steel structures and external engineering networks, says Fedor Strelets, Deputy Director of Kharkov-Arena construction project. After that the builders will start the work on external storm-water drainage.

Fedor noted that the construction will be suspended between December 31 and January 8 as the workers will celebrate the New Year holidays. Many experts come from other regions and will return back home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year’s Day.

The work is carried out as planned, assured the Deputy Director of the construction project. “Already we’ve used 30 million hryvnas, which is about 10% of the total cost of the work. The deadline remains intact, scheduled for December 2014. The main construction period will be during the summer. If we get credit line, the work will go faster,” said Strelets.

He also noted that the builders expect to get the necessary assistance from the Eurobasket-2015 Preparation Committee: «We expect the committee to be actively involved in the work. The Committee shall appoint consultants and give us recommendations, so that we don’t have to alter anything afterwards”.

Kharkov-Arena is a multifunctional sports complex, which will include an audience hall with mobile and stationary stands, two training halls and a sports school. Versatility of the complex means that it will be able to host competitions in 100 different kinds of sports. The arena also includes an option for ice cover. Its capacity is 5,000 — 7,000 people. The construction is managed by VETEK group of Sergei Kurchenko.

EuroBasket-2015 will be held in six cities of Ukraine. As planned, the group stage of the competition will take place in Lvov, Odessa and Kharkov, while semi-final and final games will be held in Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk and Kiev.
