America asks Russia to influence Ukraine
Washington calls on Russia to exert influence for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine, but with that, again expresses its support in favor of the European choice.
"The Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Victoria Nuland expressed a deep concern of the US with the situation in Ukraine. She called on the Russian side for peaceful settlement of the problem, and securing of protection of the human dignity and making the political decision," the U.S. embassy informed after the Ukrainian issue had been discussed at the meeting in Moscow.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, by the Assistant of the President of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov, the leaders of the civil society community and the Assistant Secretary Victoria Nuland.
"The Assistant Secretary of the US has clearly explained the Russian colleagues that the United States supports the choice of Ukraine in favor of Europe, non-violent and absolutely political solution of the current situation, as well as the restoration of the economic well-being of the country, with the support of the International Monetary Fund," the embassy noted.
