Crimean cafes and hotels began to accept rubles
Crimean cafes and hotels have already started to accept rubles Beginning Monday, March 24, all money circulation on the peninsula will be in rubles.
The transition to Russia currency takes less time then was expected, reports the correspondent of “Russian news service” in Simferopol.
According to RSN, Crimean hotels, shops and cafes have replaced their price tags. Now the cost is indicated in both currencies. Also, the owners of hotels and catering comopanies have already acquired new tills for payments in rubles.
Previously it was assumed that the active introduction of the ruble on the peninsula will begin in April. However, due to the policy of the Ukrainian National Bank, Crimea will enter the ruble zone much earlier. Already starting 24 March, Crimea and Sevastopol officially switch to ruble transactions.
“Payments of pensions, salaries will be made in rubles,” said Vladimir Konstantinov, the Chairman of the State Council of Crimea.
As Kharkov News Agency already reported, during the transition period both currencies, Russian ruble and the Ukrainian hryvnia, will circulate in the Crimea. The length of this transition period is still unknown.
