Up to 3 years in prison for demolition of Lenin monuments
Russian police opened a criminal case against unknown persons who damaged the Lenin monument in Pervomaisky village (Shilkinsky district, Trans-Baikal Territory). The vandals who beheaded the monument face fines of up to RUR 3 million or imprisonment for up to three years.
According to the press service of the Interior Ministry office in Trans-Baikal territory, information on the damages to the monument surfaced in the morning on March 21.
“Local police investigators went to the crime scene. It was found that unknown perpetrators removed the head of the sculpture,” reads a statement of Trans-Baikal Interior Ministry office. Currently, police are searching for vandals by visiting the houses and apartments of local residents.
A criminal case is opened under the Article “Destruction or damage of cultural heritage”.
In Ukraine, protesters with EuroMaidan slogan destroyed dozens of Lenin monuments. There was no reaction from the police.
