Mariupol protesters stormed the City Council
Members of a large rally under Russian flags stormed Mariupol City Council. They demanded that the Mayor held a special session of the City Council to address the question of holding a referendum.
“We, the Mariupol residents, demand a referendum on three issues — whether to remain a part of Ukraine, become a federation part within Ukraine or to join Russia. We want to receive a decent wage, we want economic stability here, in the south-east. We are opposed to armed revolution,” reads the statement of the protesters.
After lengthy negotiations with the activists, city authorities decided to hold a session on March 25 that will address these issues.
Since the beginning of March, mass rallies with similar demands are happening in most cities of southeast Ukraine.
