The President of Argentina supports Crimea's choice
Head of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner reminded the leaders of the Western countries of the right of peoples to self-determination as spelled out in the UN Charter, and stressed that this rule fully applies to the Crimea.
Argentinian President compares the situation in the Crimea to a referendum that took place a year ago on the Falkland Islands. The residents of this disputed territory that is claimed by Britain and Argentina were in favor of remaining a part of the United Kingdom. The UN did not challenge the validity of that referendum.
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner accused Western leaders who recognized the right of Falkland’s people to self-determination in lack of logic and double standards, because they do not want to do the same in the Crimea’s case.
