The University of Kharkov was disconnected from electricity supply because of a debt
According to information of Kharkov National University named after Karazin, Kharkovoblenergo cut off the supply of electricity to the northern building of the university due to debts. There is no electricity in the building since the evening of March 17. Classes and lectures were not canceled in the building. And the main building of the university was not disconnected from electricity supply at all.
According to the press-service, the university has means to pay for electricity. On Friday documents were filed in the State Treasury, today funds were transferred to Kharkovoblenergo. It is expected that power engineering specialist will begin to the supply electricity to the northern building already today.
Since the beginning of 2014 consumers of the region increased the debt for electricity by 157 million UAH up to 625 million UAH. The largest debt belongs to Kharkovvodokanal (227 million UAH); state companies, public utilities and private enterprises are among debtors. In addition to classes, the northern building of the university houses offices of some public institutions.
