Journalist wants to deprive Iosif Kobzon of the "Honorary Dnepropetrovsk Citizen” title
USSR People's Artist Iosif Kobzon may be deprived of the “Honorary Dnepropetrovsk Citizen” title. The reason is the artist’s condemnation of EuroMaidan activists who seized power in Ukraine.
Earlier, Russian musician Yuri Bashmet was deprived of the Professor Emeritus title at the Lviv National Academy of Music, while Kiev cancelled a concert of the pianist Denis Matsuev. Both artists, as well as Iosif Kobzon, support the position of President Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine and Crimea, and signed relevant appeal by Russian celebrities published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Culture. There are more than five hundred signatures, though the list includes some deceased artists, too. “We want a strong future for the affinity of our peoples and our cultures,” reads the statement.
Now, authorities want to deprive Iosif Kobzon of the "Honorary Dnepropetrovsk Citizen” title. The information comes from journalist and social activist A. Bogatyrev, who wrote on his social network page that he is ready to initiate this process. The journalist submitted his proposal to the City Council.
Also, a young sycamore planted by Kobzon in Shevchenko Park in September last year has disappeared. According to the park director, there is only a tree stump now.
