Paralympic flame will remain in Crimea
On March 12, a torch with Paralympics fire arrived to Crimea. The event was timed to coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Vladimir Vernadsky, the second rector of Tauride National University and the first president of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
Delivery of torch to Crimea was initiated by the Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin, one of the main torchbearers at the start of Sochi-2014 Paralympic Torch Relay in town of Chekhov.
According to the organisers, this event is not political and is intended for a charity support of children with cancer — the photo with the torch will cost about UAH 10 and all the collected proceeds will go to help the kids.
The organisers announced that the Paralympic torch would remain in Crimea as long as the risk to peace and tranquillity on the peninsula remains.
