Dobkin will run for the presidency in spite of the house arrest
The former governor of Kharkov region Mikhail Dobkin intends to run for the presidency in spite of the house arrest. "I do not change my views and life principles, as well as plans. I will run for the presidency being arrested," Mikhail Dobkin wrote in his micro blog in Twitter.
Mikhail Dobkin was placed under house arrest yesterday, on March 11. The Kiev court made such a decision. Lawyers of Mikhail Dobkin intend to appeal against the judicial decision.
Mikhail Dobkin resigned from the post of the Governor of Kharkov region on February 26, to be a candidate in presidential elections, scheduled by Verkhovna Rada on May 25. The new authorities of Ukraine suspect Dobkin of encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Prosecutor General's Office began the investigation after the speech made by the ex-governor of Kharkov region Dobkin on February 12 in Kharkov during the round table called Social, Economic and Political Processes in Post-Crisis Ukraine. The supervisory department notes that Mikhail Dobkin talked about establishment of the New Russian Union.
The chair of the Kharkov Regional Council Sergey Chernov believes that charges in separatism towards Dobkin are farfetched, and the ex-governor called only to decentralization of the authority, without questioning the border of the region and the country. Later the mayor of Kharkov Gennady Kernes stated that criminal cases opened against him and the former governor of Kharkov region Mikhail Dobkin are the direct political revenge of the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.
