More than 10,000 people rally in Donetsk on Lenin Square supporting the "people's governor" Pavel Gubarev. Protesters hold Ukrainian and Russian flags, chanting demands for immediate referendum on determining status of the southern and eastern regions.
Around 13.00, part of the protesters moved via the Artem Street towards the Donetsk Regional State Administration. The road is not blocked; the police does not prevent the movement of people. People are chanting "Taruta, come out", "Gubarev", "referendum". Administration building is under heavy police guard.
At 14.20, the protesters began to disperse from the Regional State Administration; some people went to Lenin Square where the rally continued.
As previously reported, yesterday, March 8, Donetsk people held the so-called preparatory rally in support of Pavel Gubarev. According to the estimates, from 3,000 to 5,000 people attended the rally. The participants demanded the immediate release of Paul Gubarev and local referendums.
Ukraine’s Security Service arrested Pavel Gubarev on March 6 in a safe house in Donetsk and then immediately sent him to Kiev. After his arrest, the riots began as his supporters try to free their leader. It was expected that he might be released on UAH 80,000 bail; however, so far Gubarev has not been released.
