Putin: Russia sees no need to use troops in Ukraine
Russia sees no need to use troops on the territory of Ukraine, but is ready to defend its compatriots in the country, said Russian President Vladimir Putin at the press conference on March 4 in the suburban residence of Novo-Ogarevo.
According to Putin, Russia reserves the right to use all available methods to stabilize the situation in Ukraine, as the legitimate, in his opinion, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has asked him about it.
“We protect our compatriots in Ukraine. We operate under the decree of the only legitimate President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, who asked us to protect Ukrainian citizens,” Putin said, adding that Russia sees neither need to use troops on the territory of Ukraine, nor to start a war. But if necessary Russia will use troops to protect the citizens of Ukraine and Russian citizens.
“This is a humanitarian mission. We do not pretend to enslavement, and we wouldn’t stay away if people are humiliated,” said Putin.
