Igor Kolomoisky gives his first press conference as governor of Dnipropetrovsk region
The new head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration shared experiences of his first steps, stabilization of gasoline prices and the Football Championship.
He appointed as his deputies the businessman Boris Filatov and People's Deputy Svyatoslav Oliynyk.
“What I'll do now is getting into the swing of things. So far, everything is new for me, I have to understand things. Then maybe there will be some changes in personnel. What’s important today is to normalise the situation and return the life to normal, to have confidence in the future. Then the priority areas of work include fight against corruption, costs reduction and privilege control,” said Kolomoysky.
At the same time, businessman said he’s unlikely to hold a chair of Governor for long, though there is nothing more permanent than temporary. Regarding his appointment, he said that if the tycoons come to power in such a difficult time, this could be a signal to society that the region is actually doing well. The start of the Ukraine football Championship also follows these lines, he said.
“I was surprised why the Championship did not start, it would be a good signal to the public that everything is in order. The same situation is with the basketball Championship. Yesterday they were deciding the whole night and still cannot make up their minds whether Ukrainian team would play with the US in Cyprus or not,” he said.
Regarding assistance to region’s residents and stabilisation of the petrol prices, the billionaire asked to specify exactly what it should be.
“What help is needed? Is it charitable or investment? We have invested much more in the Ukrainian economy. Petrol price increases because of the dollar, because we depend on imports. As for the price at the pump, which I can influence, as far as I know, it is one hryvnia lower than elsewhere,” he said.
He also assured that the construction of major infrastructure points, in particular, the bypass road and new subway stations, would go according to plan.
