Majlis leader names conditions of all-Crimean referendum
The main condition for all-Crimean referendum on the status of Crimea, as approved by the Crimean parliament, is to conduct the referendum questioning separately in different national groups - Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatars.
This was stated by Refat Chubarov, member of Supreme Council of Crimea, head of Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, at a briefing in Simferopol.
“You understand how legitimate the results of this gunpoint referendum will be. Referendum is a way outside of the law,” said Refat Chubarov.
However, he said, if residents of the autonomy reach an understanding that the referendum is inevitable, it is necessary to discuss the venue and ensure its legal basis.
“If we believe that, through a referendum, we will combine the aspirations of all Crimean community, I think that it should take place in one day, but separately in at least three communities: Crimean Tatar, Russian and Ukrainian. If the answer to the one question will be the same in three ethnic societies - it means, this is the choice of all Crimean community. If the answers do not match, it will be a choice of one or more parts of the Crimean community. This means that Crimea residents have different aspirations,” said the leader of the Majlis.
