Aksenov switched all the Crimea siloviki under his command
Sergey Aksenov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, issued emergency statement at about 6:00 today, reports the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea.
It says: “In spite of the agreements reached with the central government, on infeasibility of appointing heads of law enforcement agencies without the consent of the Supreme Council of Crimea, yesterday, on February 28, Avrutsky Igor was appointed as the head of Crimean militia — in violation of the Constitution of Crimea and the Law of Ukraine “On Militia”. This appointment, as well as the presence within the autonomy of unidentified armed groups, military equipment and the inability of ARC law enforcement agencies to effectively control the situation on the peninsula, resulted in disturbances, including with firearms.
Given the above, I, as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, implementing powers conferred on me by the Supreme Council of the Autonomy, make a decision on temporary resubordination of squads, units, power structures of the Interior Ministry, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Inland Revenue, Border Guards, etc. directly under my command. All commanders are to perform only my orders and instructions. Those who disagree are asked to leave the service.
Given the above, realizing my responsibility for the lives and safety of citizens, I appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin to assist in maintaining peace and order in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.”
