Ukrainian Olympic team observes a minute of silence in memory of the victims
Ukrainian athletes team in Sochi and the president of Ukrainian National Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka observed a minute of silence in memory of those killed in the Kiev riots, reports the press service of the National Olympic Committee.
“For all of us it is a very difficult time, because back home there are family, relatives, friends, compatriots. We are deeply concerned and worry for them. Taking part in the Olympics, we strive to represent the people of Ukraine with dignity and honor,” note the representatives of the Ukrainian Olympic team.
Sharing the day of mourning declared in Ukraine, Ukrainian Olympians put black mourning ribbons on the national flags hanging in the Olympic Village.
President Viktor Yanukovych declared February 20 the day of mourning in Ukraine in connection with the loss of human life in the riots.
