Russia hockey team left without medals
Russian team lost to Finns in the quarterfinals. This means that the struggle for the medals will go on without the hosts.
The quarterfinal match began well for the Russians. Ilya Kovalchuk scored, moving his team ahead. But already in the first period, the Finns were able to turn the tide of the match. Yuhamatti Aaltonen equalized the score. Then it was the time of the team’s veteran Teemu Selanne. The second goal he scored himself, in the third acted as an assistant. Russians were trying to change the resulting 3:1 score, but the Finns were almost flawless in the defense. Russians lost, and the fight for Olympic medals will go on without them. In the semi-finals, Finland will play against Sweden, which today defeated Slovenia — 5:0.
The second pair of semi-finals will be determined in the evening. In the other two quarterfinals, Canada will play against Latvia and the US with the Czech Republic.
