Ukraine wants to fill Saudi market with poultry, butter and cereals
Ukraine is interested in exporting to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia domestic chicken, as well as in larger export of grain and sunflower oil, reports the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine following the meeting of its minister Nicholai Prisyazhnuk with Jedai Al-Hathal, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Ukraine.
Ukraine is already exporting to Saudi Arabia cereals, sunflower oil and eggs. Last year, Ukraine sold $356 million worth of grain, $69 million worth of sunflower oil and $1.5 million worth of eggs.
“Saudi Arabia remains Ukraine's major trading partner in the agricultural sector. And Ukraine can increase the supply of these commodities to Saudi Arabia. At the same time, it is the only market among the countries of the Middle East, which remains closed for our poultry. Therefore I propose, to resolve as soon as possible all the issues for supplying poultry meat to Saudi Arabia,” said Prisyazhnuk.
The Minister said that the ban on import of poultry meat was introduced in 2008, and must be removed. Ukraine’s Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service made an official appeal on this matter to the Saudi counterparts.
