Superior Specialized Court of Ukraine asks to strengthen the protection of judges
Following the death of Alexander Lobodenko, a judge of the Avtozavodsky District Court of Kremenchug city (Poltava region), Superior Specialized Court of Ukraine (VSSU) appealed to Ukraine’s parliament asking to strengthen the protection and independence of judges.
According to the press service of VSSU, Superior Specialized Court of Ukraine appealed to Ukraine’s parliament requesting to amend the Law of Ukraine “On the Judicial System and Status of Judges” and other procedural laws regarding additional security measures to protect and enhance guarantees of judge’s independence.
“Given the recent tragic, fatal events, we take this opportunity to appeal to the Public Prosecutors, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, with a call to respond to extremist statements of some politicians that lead to escalation of violence and violations of human rights and freedoms of man and citizen. At the same time, we draw attention to the necessity of unconditional compliance with the Constitution and laws of Ukraine concerning the guarantees of independence and immunity of judges, non-intrusion in the administration of justice and ensuring their personal safety and legal protection,” reads the VSSU statement.
VSSU team for civil and criminal cases also expressed their condolences to the family, friends and colleagues regarding the death of Alexander Lobodenko.
