A hijacker tried to redirect a Ukrainian plane to Sochi from Istanbul
In Istanbul airport on Friday evening, February 7, there was an attempt to hijack a passenger plane of one of Ukrainian airlines.
According to media reports, one of the passengers said there is a bomb on board and demanded urgently to re-route the plane to Sochi, where the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics was unfolding at the time. As a result, the plane was escorted to Istanbul by F-16 fighter jet of Turkish Air Force.
Currently, the aircraft is in the security area of Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Experts are searching the plane for explosives.
According to the Turkish news agency TRT, the plane flies the Kharkov-Istanbul route. There were 110 passengers on the board.
