Former UA President at CNN: opposition has no control over Maidan, fights for power (video)
"At the Maidan, opposition struggles for power, not for the development of the country," explained Yuschenko, ex-President of Ukraine, the situation talking live to CNN.
The opposition does not control the Maidan and can not meet the demands of the protesters in the negotiations with the authorities: "I do not think that Ukrainian political opposition has control over the whole situation on the Maidan," stressed Yuschenko answering the question of CNN.
He emphasized that currently the opposition is more engaged in a "struggle for power" than in developing the "strategic policies of the state". The opposition did not provide "a comprehensive pact" that would suit people, believes the politician.
Answering the question whether Yuschenko would support US sanctions against Ukrainians in authority, he noted, "of course - this is an important issue". "But I want to say that sanctions are insufficient for a single reason, when we have no unified context of the movement for our rapprochement, when we have no unified plan for settlement of the Ukrainian issue," added the ex-President.
He noted that Ukraine "has made its choice - Europe", adding, "Ukrainian nation sends the messages that it wants to Europe, it is our home, we want to return home".
