Kharkov residents will be shown a movie based on the picture of Pieter Bruegel
The Movie The Mill and The Cross based on the picture of the Dutch painter Pieter Bruegel The Procession to Calvary will be demonstrated on January 28 in the gallery The Art of Slobozhanshchina.
According to the organizers, in the Polish and Swedish movie, produced in 2011, the film director Lech Mayevsky offers his interpretation of the events of the canvas of the well-known artist.
The movie is a fantasy on the topic of the destinies of the characters that one can see in the picture (Virgin Mary is among them), of Pieter Bruegel and of the merchant from Antwerp Niclaes Jongelinck, who is a collector of the pieces of art.
"The movie demonstrates the universal language of art, which is full of symbols, signs and intertextuality. The movie helps to set up communication in nonverbal language of communication between the artist, his characters and a modern spectator," the organizers of the event told.
The beginning is at 5:00 p.m. The discussion and debates of the movie will be held right after its demonstration. The entrance is free of charge.
Pieter Bruegel the Elder, also known as Peasant Bruegel (approx. 1525-1569), is a South Dutch painter and printmaker, the most famous artist of all the artists bearing this surname. He is the master of the landscape and of the genre scenes. The picture The Procession to Calvary (Bearing of a cross) was painted in 1564. The scene is based on the gospel story of the way of Jesus Christ to the place of execution. The picture is located in the collection of the Museum of History of Fine Arts in Vienna (Austria).
