In the center of Kiev 20 masked men with batons attacked traffic police patrol.
The incident happened on January 22 at 20:30 at the intersection of Kreschatyk Street and Shevchenko Blvd., reports the Ministry of Interior.
“Having found the patrol, citizens began shouting threats against the traffic police officers. One of them tried to hit the head of the officer with a stick, but the patrol member avoided it. The second strike, by another striker, caught the back of traffic police officer. Partner of the police officer was forced to expose the service firearm and warn the attackers about possibility of its application,” said one of the victims, officer Alexander Ivasyuk.
According to him, only after the warning about the use of weapons the unknown men disbanded. During the conflict, the "hijackers" took away the radio set that fell from the hands of a policeman when he was hit.
According to the Interior Ministry, this incident has been included in the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations. Authorities opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (a threat or violence against a law enforcement officer).
