Vatican defrocks 400 priests-paedophiles
About 400 Catholic paedophile priests have been defrocked by the order of the Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI.
The data was released by Vatican representatives at UN public hearing in Geneva on sexual violence against children. However, this does not apply to 2013 — the information that available to the Associated Press about the defrocked paedophiles concerns only 2011 and 2012.
Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said at first that the report was based on incorrect data but later retracted his statement and confirmed that the stated information is true.
During a sermon on Thursday, Pope Francis, the successor of Benedict XVI, named the sex scandals a disgrace to the Church.
