Poland is ready to imprison for words
Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s conservative party “Law and Justice” offered to introduce criminal penalties for the use of the phrase “Polish death camps”.
This means the Nazi camps located in then-occupied Poland, reports Radio France Internationale. Now some of them have the museum status.
In particular, Kaczynski proposes a punishment of up to five years imprisonment.
US President Barack Obama also used this expression in 2012, which caused at the time a diplomatic incident between Washington and Warsaw.
In 2012, the diplomatic services of the Polish Foreign Ministry identified at least 130 cases of foreign media using this expression.
