US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt arrived in Ukraine
Today, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt arrived in Kyiv. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara held the negotiating round. Politicians met to discuss further American-Ukrainian cooperation in the energy sphere.
Priority issues were on the elimination of strategic reserve of nuclear weapons and prevention the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The conference resulted in a prolongation of the Agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine, signed on 25 October 1993.
The Agreement, consisting of thirteen articles, provides with the provision of free assistance by the United States as technical assistance, material and technical resources, services export and liquidation of Ukrainian munitions are to minimize the consequences of possible emergency situations.
The American Ambassador in discussions of the political situation in Ukraine said that the U.S. support the position of non-interference in the internal policy of the country.
