Families of jewelry factory fire victims will receive 100,000 UAH - Vice Prime Minister
On January 8, there was a fire in the five-story-production-building, located on the premises of the factory Khartron. The fire killed eight people, 22 more were rescued. Seven people remain in hospital. The building has been rented by Kharkov Jewelry Factory.
On January 8, the State Commission on technogenic, environmental safety and emergencies gathered in Kharkov, on Hartron factory that has recently had a large-scale fire. Vice Prime Minister Aleksandr Vilkul, who conducted the meeting, said that the families of the fire victims will receive financial aid.
“People shouldn’t die because of the negligent leaders. Enterprises need to strengthen the fire safety measures. Today's incident will be thoroughly investigated, and the guilty will be brought to justice. The Government will provide the bereaved families with 100,000 hryvnia as a material assistance. Victims will be given all necessary medical care," said Deputy Prime Minister.
According to him, tentatively, the fire was caused by an explosion of flammable substances in one of the workshops. Final reason will be named after the necessary examinations.
Kharkov Regional prosecutor Gennady Tyurin said that he is considering other versions, including a violation of fire safety rules. He noted that the premises have not had a fire exit (the one available iron door had a large lock). "If it were open, perhaps some of the victims could have been saved," said the prosecutor. He said that the the incident is being investigated under Part 2 of Art. 270 of the Criminal Code (violation of fire safety requirements leading to loss of life).
