Syria schools will teach Russian
Syria’s Ministry of Education will introduce Russian as a second foreign language into curriculum of secondary schools.
Starting first year of secondary school, students will be offered the choice to study French or Russian language (earlier, all Syrian students were taught French as a second foreign language). As Ministry officials explain, this step has been prompted by “sincere sympathies of the Syrians to Russia and interest to its great culture”.
“By the next school year, all the necessary preparations to run the program for teaching Russian will be completed," said the Minister of Education Hazvana al Uazz.
In parallel, the state prepares teachers from Russian-speaking environment. The Ministry of Education of the Syrian Arab Republic is going to invite 450 teachers of the Russian language from Russia to supervise the process.
