Ukrainian corn exports have grown by a third - the country is set for the record
Since the beginning of 2013/2014 marketing year, Ukraine’s corn exports grew by more than 3 million tons, with export sales reaching 9.5 million tons, reports the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
"Corn remains Ukraine's main export crop. By the New Year the farmers supplied to the foreign markets 9.5 million tons of the new corn crops. That is, over 3 million tons more than for the corresponding period of the previous marketing year,” cites the press service the Minister Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk.
According to the report, the share of exported corn exceeded half of the total grain exports in the new marketing year.
The Minister said that in November and December Ukraine exported 3.6 million tons of corn monthly - the highest level of corn exports.
"In general, we plan to export about 19-20 million tons of corn. This is a record for Ukraine, it makes us the third largest corn exporter in the world,” said Prisyazhnyuk.
The Minister added that corn is in high demand on the world markets. Therefore, Ukraine will continue to expand its selling markets and search for new market channels in 2014.
The Ministry forecasts 32.5 million tons of grain exports from Ukraine in 2013/2014 marketing year; this could become an absolute record for independent Ukraine.
