Earth’s population reached 7.2 billion people
On January 1, 2014, the world population reached 7.2 billion people, while during 2013 the number of people living on our planet grew by 80 million.
The figures are provided in the report of the German Foundation for the world’s population (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung, DSW).
Drafters of the report are concerned with a disproportionately high level of population growth in developing countries. According to the experts, this will lead to an increase in global poverty.
The report goes on to note that each year women in developing countries have an average of 80 million cases of unwanted pregnancy.
