Professor faked AIDS vaccine
To receive a $19 million US government grant, professor of Iowa State University faked data on the study of an AIDS vaccine, reports New York Post.
Professor of biomedicine Dong-Pai Han added samples of human blood with HIV antibodies to rabbit serum. This should have convinced the public that a vaccine based on rabbit blood may develop protective mechanisms against HIV. Falsified results were presented in 2010-2012 in a number of medical publications and has attracted much attention from the scientific community. Han’s colleagues had no idea the study results were fabricated.
Deception was revealed after scientists in several labs unsuccessfully tried Han’s experiment. In the end, Han admitted falsified results and resigned.
