Kravchuk: Russia will never let Ukraine go
The former president Leonid Kravchuk in the air of the Public Television expressed the opinion that Europe made a mistake when it tried to break the relations of Russia and Ukraine and to take the latter into the Eastern partnership.
According to Kravchuk, now, when Ukraine agreed about the credit and the discount for gas, it became more tied to Russia. But the former president does not see a threat for the country: “There were the threats in the time of Yeltsin and Kravchuk, but, thanks God, Ukraine still lives independently”. Moreover, Kravchuk stated that he would have acted the same as the current government: he would negotiate with Moscow in order to save Ukraine from bankruptcy.
“Russia will never let Ukraine go. When Europe planned the Eastern partnership it made a huge mistake: it left Russia aside of the Eastern partnership,” Kravchuk told, “Europe thought that it will take away from Russia the former republics, the current states… But all of the republics are tied to Russia because of gas, market, the customs form, and are tied very tight. And one should know the place of Russia; otherwise it will not let Ukraine go.”
