Kharkov grandmaster wins the blitz tour in the European championship
Anton Korobov, Kharkov chess player, won first place (and a certificate for 2,000 euros) in the European Blitz Chess Championship held on December 13 in Poland. Kharkov grandmaster scored 18.5 out of 22 possible points. The main competitors were the representatives of France and Poland, but in the end, they were 1.5 points behind Anton. Kharkov resident also took the 5th place in the rapid chess.
Poland-based championship gathered representatives from over 30 countries – more than 700 participants. Among them were 47 international grandmasters (highest chess ranking).
Anton Korobov has previously shown results in international championships too. Earlier this year, as a member of the Ukrainian team he went to the world chess championship, where the team got the third place.
Blitz chess is a type of chess game where the moves are made within a limited time (a few minutes).
Rapid chess is a type of chess game where the player is given between 15 minutes and an hour to complete the game.
