Ukrainian Highway Agency intends to repair roads
Alexander Kharchenko, Deputy Head of Ukrainian Highway Agency (Ukravtodor), said that the company purchased 13.3 million tons of cold solution for road repair. The work will begin this winter — the potholes will be patched using cold-laid asphaltic concrete.
Ukravtodor teams have already patched 6.5 million square meters of roads and recovered 626 kilometers of roads that lost their load-bearing capacity.
Ukrainian roads were built back in 1970s — their age, as well as the increasing number of vehicles, including heavy trucks, are major causes of damage to the road surface.
According the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ukrainian roads are currently unsafe for traveling. The death rate in road accidents in Ukraine approaches 15 people per 100,000 population; in Sweden this figure is down to 3 people.
