The Russian language has taken the second place in the internet
The head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Minkomsviaz) Nikolay Nikiforov said during the international forum Open Innovations that the Russian language had become the second most popular language in the internet.
Nikiforov emphasized that in terms of the number of broadband internet subscribers Russia occupies the fifth place in the world and the first place in Europe.
"The number of the Russian-speaking users in the world is so big that our mother tongue is the second most popular language in the world-wide web," said the head of Minkomsviaz.
According to Nikiforov, this fact creates "positive prerequisites" for further development of "high-tech economy" in Russia.
