Emomalii Rahmon has once again become the President of Tajikistan
Emomalii Rahmon has been reelected for the third time during the last presidential election in Tajikistan. According to the information of the Central Election Committee the general voting turnout in Tajikistan comprised 3,640,000 people, which is 86.6 percent of the total number of voters.
The candidate for president Emomalii Rahmon has got 3,023,754 votes of the people, which comprises 83.6 percent of the total quantity of those who voted.
The citizens of Tajikistan have reelected Emomalii Rahmon for the fourth presidential term.
Rahmon was born on October 5, 1952 in the settlement Dangar in Kulob region. In 1982 he graduated from the department of distance education of Tajik State National University with a degree in Economics. He started his career with the political activity: from 1976 till 1982 he was the secretary of the administration, chairman of the union committee of the collective farm named after Lenin in Dangara district in Kulob region. Later on he worked as the instructor of the regional committee, secretary of the state farm committee. In 1992 — 1994 he was a chairman of the Supreme Council of Tajik Republic. Since November 6, 1994 he is the President of Tajik Republic. On November 6, 1999 he was reelected as President for the second term. On November 6, 2006 he was reelected for the third term. Rahmon is married and has nine children. Till April 2007 his second name was Rahmonov. At that time he demanded all the citizens of the Republic to refuse from the Slavic endings of their second names and delegated the authorities of the civil registrations to register the second names of the newborns in accordance with the Persian tradition.
